A home is often finished down to the very last detail, stone, wood, lighting only for the light switch to be treated as an afterthought. Moorgen designs its control panels with the same care as the walls they sit on. This world of intelligent living is built on wired home automation and as the sole Moorgen partner for India, Alvis Homes brings that vision to luxury homes across the country.
Carrying the name of its founders Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, the Design and Research Office founded in 2004 works across architecture, interior design and product design ranking its founders among the top 100 most influential industrial designers globally. Their honours span continents: Architizer A+ Firm of the Year award in the United States, Dezeen’s Firm of the Year in the United Kingdom, the EDIDA International Designer of the Year award in Italy, Designer of the Year at Wallpaper* magazine in the UK and a Red Dot Design Award in Germany. It is this design pedigree that Moorgen India brought in through Alvis Homes to reimagine what a smart panel could be for the Indian market.
The idea behind the Tile Series begins with a simple observation, a control panel should feel like an integral part of the home blending with the elements around it rather than sitting as an additional fixture. Neri & Hu drew inspiration from vintage tile mosaic systems for this, designing individual control panel units, each handling a different function. Combined, these tiles form a grid pattern on the wall, much like a mosaic, an idea that translates especially well to wired home automation, where every tile can be wired into a single, considered system rather than scattered as separate wireless accessories.
This grid-based thinking is what allows the Tile Series to break away from the traditional panel size that has defined switches for decades. A single tile can be a compact quarter-size square panel or a half-size rectangular panel and several tiles can be assembled together into wider configurations, from two-frame, three-frame and four-frame smart panels to a half-size dual-button panel, a half-size toggle switch panel and an LCD smart thermostat panel.
Every space and every corner has different needs and this modularity means the panel can be shaped around the architecture. Physically, the panel is built as an ultra-thin, integrated all-metal unit, available in two thickness options keeping it close to the wall surface rather than protruding into the room. It comes in two finishes, a bright Belgian Silver and a plain Mica Black both among Moorgen India‘s most requested combinations for luxury interiors either blending quietly into the surrounding palette or standing out as a considered design statement in their own right.

One of the more thoughtful engineering details in the Tile Series is its magnetic detachable structure. Rather than requiring an electrician to rewire a panel to change its function or finish, the tile’s face simply detaches magnetically making it possible to switch between functions or colours with ease. It is an advantage particularly suited to wired home automation where the cabling behind the wall stays untouched even as the finish or function on the surface changes, well suited to homes where interiors evolve over the years.
Control on the smart panel is built around the same stepless adjustment Moorgen uses across its ecosystem, a standard Alvis Homes brings to every project it delivers. A damped sliding rod offers a comfortable, precise feel for curtain control allowing exact percentage adjustment of curtain travel rather than a simple open-or-closed toggle. The same stepless logic applies to lighting and volume both controlled through a light touch sliding motion letting a room’s lighting move smoothly from a dim glow to full brightness with a single continuous gesture rather than in fixed increments.
The entire system runs on Moorgen’s wired home automation backbone where every tile in the grid draws power and data from the same cable line with no batteries to replace and no separate wireless sensors to install.
For India’s climate, with its heat, humidity and monsoon wired reliability matters as much as the design does. Alvis Homes, Moorgen India‘s official partner, now offers the Tile Series across the country, and welcomes architects and homeowners to experience it firsthand at the Moorgen Experience Centre.
